After reading that book, Alexander Semenov also dreamed of becoming an explorer at the bottom of the sea. Another world at the bottom of the sea and many known and unknown creatures of that world gave him a hand. Semenov fulfilled the dream.

After graduating from Moscow State University in Russia in 2006, he joined the White Sea Biological Station as a marine biologist. Gradually his dream came true.

Semenov began photographing sea creatures. There he formed a project called 'Aquatilis' with divers to find out the unknown of the sea. The project was not limited to taking pictures of interesting and strange creatures underwater, but also to bring marine science to everyone.

Floating in the deep cold waters of the ocean without any recourse is quite a chore for new divers. But the brave Semenov never hesitated to take all the wonderful pictures floating on different levels of extremely cold water.

What we see with the naked eye when taking pictures at the bottom of the ocean cannot be easily captured on camera," Semenov said. In most cases, the colour of the creatures changes due to the low presence of light in the deep sea. In many cases, even good quality modern cameras do not work properly when taking pictures of tiny creatures.

As a result, it is difficult to get a good picture without editing. So the main goal of taking pictures in deep water is to take pictures without editing, which will look real and natural. '


He has a unique experience of diving into the abyss with an oxygen tank. This experienced biologist prefers to take pictures in a natural environment rather than in a laboratory. This is because soft-bodied planktonic organisms are not known as much by reading them in books or in laboratories as by observing them directly.

Semenov is currently working as a professional diving photographer. Associated with a number of magazines, including National Geographic, BBC, and Nature. Numerous pictures of strange creatures of the sea can be seen on his social media. He published his research through social media as well as various documentaries and exhibitions in real life.
